A Sectoral e-Business Observatory
  • As the adoption of information technologies and the maturity of their application increases across sectors and regions, a new picture of the digital economy is beginning to emerge: IT and electronic business do matter - perhaps more than ever.

  • In 2003/04, the e-Business W@tch monitors the adoption of electronic business practices in 10 sectors of the European economy. The analysis is based on sound empirical research, including annual enterprise surveys in all countries of the enlarged European Union. Special emphasis is placed on the implications for SMEs.

  • Launched in 2002 as a market observatory, the e-Business W@tch has developed into a think-tank and intermediary, stimulating the debate of economic and policy implications of e-business among stakeholders on international level.

Are e-procurement schemes of large companies a threat for small suppliers?

Not really. It is just the method of placing and processing orders that changes.
Some small firms may have serious problems to comply with the technical requirements of their customers. But in total, SMEs will also benefit from more efficient processes.
I see problems ahead for small firms. Large companies will use e-procurement to drastically decrease the number of their suppliers.
It depends on the case. All in all, e-procurement causes equal opportunities for buyers and sellers,
